Smak is a community focused destination for all things food related - recipes, coffee shops, restaurants, local markets and culture around the world. We believe that behind every great dish there's a unique story waiting to be told. Smak strives to retell these stories through recipes and inspire others to share with their own community. Food is a constantly evolving story. Food is a lifestyle. Food is a community.

Smak + Food = Community.

Tommy Engstrom Founder and Editor

Tommy graduated from the University of Illinois in 2010 with degrees in political science and Spanish. After spending a semester abroad in Granada, Spain, Tommy felt the innate urge to spread his wings and try something new. So, with his bags packed, and not nearly enough money saved, he moved to New York City where he worked in advertising for a year. As much as he loved the Big Apple, living The Devil Wears Prada life just wasn't cutting it and he moved back to Chicago.

Enter Smak. With the feeling of failure and defeated, Tommy started a food blog and began writing about food and sharing recipes. What started as a creative outlet has turned into a full-fledged website. Four years later, the website looks much different than it did in its infancy. He is thrilled to see all of the support that people have given throughout the past few years and cannot wait to see what the future holds for Smak.

Tommy lives in Lincoln Park, Chicago. He has an inhuman love for coffee, movies, and all things Swedish.
