chicago blog a few of my favorites

It's been quite some time since I last posted a Few of My Favorite on Smak. Really, I think it has been months. The past few weeks have been busy to say the least. If you've noticed a more sporadic scheduling of posts of Smak, you would be absolutely correct. Life has been busy with work, getting ready to move into a new apartment, and getting ready for vacations. I had every intention to post Monday, Wednesday, Friday, but that didn't happen. So thank you for your understanding while I try to figure out this whole blogging with a full-time, demanding job again. It's not as easy as I thought it would be.

So without further adieu, here are a few of my favorite things:

BEVERAGE | Owen + AlchemyOnce I moved to Lincoln Park, I became lazy and didn't take a cab over to Lincoln Park to try this new juice apothecary. However, once they opened up their pop-up store in Eataly, I went to see what all the fuss was about. It shouldn't be news to you that I love fresh juices, so I was excited to give O+A a try. Let me just say this one this: despite the $10+ price mark, there is nothing bad that I can say about Owen + Alchemy. The juices are delicious and inspired. The people who work there are so friendly and informative. And the aesthetic of the brand, from the bottles and logo, to the physical elements of the store, are absolutely perfect. If you are in Chicago, you have to try these juices.

LITERATURE | On BoozeWith the little free time that I have, and trust me, lately it feels like I am running on empty with little to no free time, I like to get lost in a book or two. My latest read is On Booze, by F. Scott Fitzgerald. It is a short collection of drunken debaucheries. I am thrilled to experience Fitzgerald's writing outside of The Great Gatsby. If On Booze is even remotely close to the masterpiece that was The Great Gatsby, I know I will not be disappointed.

STYLE | Sperrys | This isn't a new favorite. Every year when summer begins showing her face, I pull out my Sperrys and rock them every chance I get. There is no better summer shoe.

FITNESS | SoulCycle | While living in NYC, my cousin Gretchen would talk about SoulCycle all the time, but I never really got into it. But once SoulCycle opened their first Chicago location in Old Town, I signed up for a class and gave it another try.I told myself that I wouldn't let it happen. I wouldn't become addicted. Obsessed. Pulled in. I tried to tell myself that I would only go once. Only give into it's lure once. I failed... SoulCycle has become my new favorite way to sweat. The only problem? The price. I am sorry, but I cannot afford to spend $30 on a single class. Although that doesn't stop me from going...I try to limit myself to once a week. But for real, Tommy is going to have to have a serious sit-down talk with himself about budgeting and spending. Let's be responsible and frugal now!

MUSIC | Gold Dust - East & Young Remix | I've recently discovered the "ElectroNOW" playlist on Spotify and it is everything. Morning, afternoon and evening I rock out to this music. My first introduction to Galantis was "Peanut Butter Jelly," which surprisingly a great song. However, once I stumbled upon the East & Young Remix of Gold Dust, all else paled in comparison.
