On a long Memorial Day weekend, what do you do? Go to the Hamptons? Drive up to the lake house in Wisconsin? Spend a few days in mountains in Telluride? The options are endless. And most of them include enjoying a beverage or two while grilling outdoors and enjoying the start of summer. Memorial Day weekend almost acts and the initiation of the summer season. Sperry shoes are pulled out of the closet. Sunglasses are wiped clean and worn with pride. American flags are hung on the front stoop. Summer clothes are officially in season.
If you're Tommy Engström, that is not exactly what your weekend looked like this year.
A night of rosé with my best friend kicked off the weekend. Followed by brunch and lots of prep work for upcoming blog articles. And then? Cleaning. Deep cleaning. Rather than spending time outside, walking around, enjoying the weather and sunshine, I put on music and cleaned. I cleaned the wall base molding, scrubbed the kitchen floor, sanitized the bathroom, and checked off just about every other chore imaginably possible. That's the thing about me - once I start cleaning I can't stop. It's a weird quirk that I've had for as long as I can remember.
The negative of this all was the amount of dirt and dust that I inhaled. Allergies. Summer colds. Who knows what germs could have invaded my body. As quickly as hypochondria began plaguing my mind, I whipped a health shot to help my immune system project against any unwanted intruders. I may have had a beer (not pictured) as well. Clearly that helps all after a long day of cleaning!
