True Life: I love HGTV

I shockingly think that this may be one topic that I have never talked about on Smak. Coffee - you all know I'm addicted. Music - it's obvious that I can't go a day without listening to it. Food - well, duh. But HGTV? Say hello to random fact #285430 about Tommy Engstrom.

Growing up I begged my parents to enter the Dream Home Giveaway. They never did. My mom and dad would always be working around the house - doing home improvement projects and DIY. It's something I grew up being around. So it's reasonable that I grew up to become a 30-year old man who loves watching Flip or Flop, Fixer Upper, and House Hunters.

When it comes to HGTV - Chip and Joanna Gaines are everything. Legitimately, everything. Let's just take a look as some classic quotes from the couple:

"Who won in life? Me. Because I got to marry you." — Chip

"He's got this energy like an 8-year-old boy ... it's what keeps things interesting around here. And I think that's what makes him such a great dad." — Joanna

"We've started this new tradition over the past couple of years where Valentines is really a family affair, so all the kids get dressed in their finest … and we cook a really big meal." — Joanna

"I want to look very passionately at you." — Chip

I mean, hello! Can you say #RelationshipGoals?!

I just recently purchased my first copy of The Magnolia Journal and am loving every minute of it as I enjoy this delicious Matcha Affogato!

Matcha Affogato

2 teaspoons sugar
1 teaspoon matcha
1 cup water
1 pint vanilla ice cream

  1. Place sugar and matcha in a medium bowl.
  2. Bring water to a bare simmer in a small saucepan over medium heat. Pour a small amount of hot water over matcha mixture and whisk to make a loose paste.
  3. Add remaining water, whisking until matcha and sugar dissolve; chill until cold, 15–20 minutes.
  4. Divide ice cream among 4 small coffee cups. Pour matcha tea evenly among cups and enjoy!
