Pizza. I am not sure there is anything in this world quite like it. Layers of delicious molten cheese. Assorted meats and vegetables. My stomach is angrily growling at the mere thought of viciously devouring a slice. Is it time for lunch yet?
Being a food blogger in Chicago, I am asked all the time what my favorite food is. What is your favorite restaurant? What is your favorite food to make? Do you have a signature dish? My knees go weak and palms clam up at the first sign of such questions. Do I start bullshitting and talk of fancy elaborate dishes? I prefer the scallop with citrus aromas and fourteen textures. Or do I be honest and upfront, admitting that I am unhealthily obsessed with pizza. While I prefer more gourmet specialty pizzas, I am not saying that I am above a frozen Jack's Pizza. That stuff is the shit.
So when I was contacted a few weeks ago to be a part of a 'Za Blogger Battle at Bar Toma in Chicago, you better believe I was all over that. My mind started racing at the possibilities - do I go with a meat lovers pizza? Ohh! What about a veggie pizza? Is it better to play it safe and use mainstream flavor combinations? Or do I think outside of the box?
Outside of the box, definitely the right decision.
whipped ricotta | lemon | garlic | oreganoprosciutto | calabrian peppers | mozzarellaarugula | olive oil | romano
I am thrilled to say that my pizza was voted the best of the night and will be featured on Bar Toma's menu as the "Pizza of the Month." Be sure to follow Smak on social media to stay up to date with the latest news, included when Smak's pizza will be featured at Bar Toma!
